An air purifier only helps when it moves air through its filters. If the output feels weak or the sound has changed, a few checks usually find the cause.
Unplug First
Switch the purifier off and unplug it before opening the filter compartment or looking at the air inlet and outlet.
Common Causes of Weak Airflow
- A pre-filter full of dust or pet hair. Clean it as the manual describes.
- A main filter that is past its service life, especially in homes with pets or smoke.
- Blocked grilles from being pushed against a wall, curtain or furniture.
- Filter packaging that was never removed.
Noise Changes
- A rattle can come from a filter that is not seated or a loose cover.
- A whistle often means a gap around the filter frame.
- Grinding or squealing that continues with a properly installed filter can point to a worn fan motor.
Do not open the housing beyond the filter compartment. If airflow stays weak or the motor noise continues, book an air purifier repair diagnosis. We will tell you honestly if the repair is not worth the cost for a small unit.
