The freezer section is cold but the refrigerator side is warm. What usually causes that?

On most frost-free models, cold air is produced in the freezer section and pushed into the fresh-food side by a fan through an air channel. If that fan stops, or the coil frosts over because a defrost part has failed, the freezer can stay cold while the refrigerator warms up. Keep the doors closed, check the temperature with an appliance thermometer, and book a diagnosis instead of turning the control all the way down.

Is ice-maker trouble on a French-door or side-by-side model worth fixing?

Usually, yes. Ice-maker complaints often come down to a frozen fill tube, a failing water inlet valve, a clogged water filter or the ice maker assembly itself. Each of those is a separate part, and we confirm which one has failed before quoting a repair.

What can I safely check myself before calling?

Make sure the doors close fully and the door gaskets are not folded, replace the water filter if it is past its change date, and confirm the ice maker switch or control lock is not turned off. Anything behind rear or interior panels, the wiring and the sealed cooling system should be left to a technician.

How should I handle the food while the refrigerator is not cooling?

Go by a thermometer reading, not by how the food looks or smells. USDA food-safety guidance says perishable refrigerated food that has been above 40°F for more than two hours should be thrown out. If you are unsure, follow that guidance.
