What OP (Freezer Display) Means
OP in the freezer temperature position on a Frigidaire electronic-control refrigerator means the freezer temperature sensor circuit reads open. Frigidaire lists it as a system error requiring service. The freezer can drift warmer because the control is no longer getting a valid temperature.
Common Causes of OP (Freezer Display)
- Failed freezer temperature sensor
- Wiring break near the freezer evaporator cover
- Connector pulled loose during ice buildup
- Control board input fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Confirm the freezer door or drawer is fully closed and nothing is holding it open. Put a thermometer between frozen packages. Then do a single 5-minute unplug or breaker reset; if OP reappears, book service rather than removing freezer panels.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The freezer sensor is mounted near the evaporator coil, defrost heater and fan, behind a panel with live wiring.
- Ice buildup around the sensor sometimes points to a defrost fault that also needs attention.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered by your warranty — check your warranty terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
