What SY CE Means
SY CE on a Frigidaire electronic-control refrigerator is a communication error: the main power/control board and the user interface on the door or dispenser have stopped exchanging data. Frigidaire classifies it as a system error requiring service. Depending on which side lost contact, cooling, temperature settings and the dispenser may stop responding normally.
Common Causes of SY CE
- Wiring harness damaged in the door hinge, where it flexes every time the door opens
- Loose or corroded connector between the main board and the interface
- Failed user interface board
- Failed main control board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Start by checking food temperatures with a thermometer. Then do one power reset only: unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker for 5 minutes and restore power. If the display returns to normal and stays that way, keep an eye on it; if SY CE reappears, leave the wiring alone and book service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The harness runs through the top hinge and behind the rear access cover, both of which carry line voltage from the main board.
- Communication faults can come from either board or the cable between them — guessing and buying a board is an expensive way to find out it was the harness.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered by your warranty — check your warranty terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
