What E5B Means
E5B on Frigidaire electronic-control dryers indicates no heat was detected. On models without a digital display, the code is shown by flashing indicator lights rather than letters.
Common Causes of E5B
- Tripped half of a double breaker
- Failed heating element
- Gas valve or igniter fault
- Open thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
On electric dryers, check the home breaker panel: dryers use a double breaker, and one half tripping can let the drum turn with no heat — reset it once. On gas dryers, confirm the gas shutoff valve behind the dryer is open (handle in line with the pipe) without disconnecting anything. If E5B returns, book service; if you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Electric heaters run on 240V; gas burners involve fuel lines and ignition — both require qualified service.
- An open thermal fuse is often a symptom of a blocked vent, which must be fixed too.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered by your warranty — check your warranty terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
