Portable air conditioners remove moisture as they cool. Many models evaporate much of it through the exhaust hose, but in humid weather water can collect faster than the unit can get rid of it, which triggers a full-tank light and stops cooling.
Switch Off Before Draining
Turn the unit off and unplug it. Place a shallow pan or towels under the drain port before removing the drain plug, and keep water away from the power cord and outlet.
Draining and Setup
- Drain the internal tank as your owner’s manual shows, then replace the plug firmly.
- In very humid conditions, some models allow a continuous drain hose. Follow the manual’s instructions for which port and mode to use.
- Keep the exhaust hose as short and straight as possible, and seal the window kit so hot, humid air does not flow back into the room.
- Make sure the unit is standing on a level floor.
When It Is Not Normal
If the full-tank light stays on right after draining, or water leaks with the plug in place and the unit level, the water level sensor, drain pump or internal drain path may be at fault. Book an air conditioner repair visit.
