What ES Means
Frigidaire lists ES on room air conditioners as an indoor defrost thermistor failure or a humidity sensor failure. The defrost thermistor helps the control protect the indoor coil from freezing.
Common Causes of ES
- Failed indoor defrost thermistor
- Failed humidity sensor on models that have one
- Wiring or connector fault
- Control board fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the unit off and unplug it for about 30 seconds, then restore power. While it is off, you can also check that the filter is clean and the front grille is not blocked. If ES comes back after the reset, book service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The defrost sensor is attached to the indoor coil inside the cabinet, which requires removing covers near live parts.
- Coil fins and refrigerant tubing are easily damaged during disassembly.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered by your warranty — check your warranty terms first.
