Emptying a bucket every day gets old quickly in a damp basement. Most dehumidifiers support continuous drainage through a hose, and some models include a pump for draining upward.
Before You Connect Anything
Switch the dehumidifier off and unplug it. Keep the unit and its cord away from floor drains or standing water while you work.
Gravity Drainage
- Use the drain port and hose type described in your owner’s manual.
- The hose must slope downhill the whole way to the drain. Any upward section, loop or kink will trap water and back it up into the unit.
- Make sure the hose end cannot slip out of the floor drain.
Pump Models
If your model has a built-in pump, follow the manual for the pump setting, maximum hose height and hose length. Check the hose occasionally for kinks or blockages.
Keep It Clean
Mold and sediment can build up in the hose and bucket area. Clean them as the manual recommends.
If Water Still Backs Up
If the hose is routed correctly but the unit still shows a full-bucket warning or leaks, the bucket switch, pump or internal drain path may need service. Book a dehumidifier repair visit.
