Self-clean cycles heat the oven far above normal cooking temperatures to turn residue into ash. For safety, the door locks during the cycle and stays locked until the oven cools to a safe temperature. That cool-down can take a while, which is why a locked door right after the cycle is not a malfunction.
Give It Time
Frigidaire states that the door stays locked until the oven has cooled enough, then unlocks automatically. Allow at least an hour or two after the cycle ends before worrying. Keep children and pets away from the hot oven front during this time and keep the kitchen ventilated.
Rule Out the Lock Feature
Many Frigidaire ranges also have a separate control lock feature that locks the door and disables the controls, commonly set or cleared by holding a button, such as the Off button, for several seconds. Your owner's manual gives the exact method. If the display shows a lock icon or "LOC" and the oven is cool, try the unlock method in your manual.
A Power Reset, If the Oven Is Fully Cool
If the oven is completely cool and the door is still locked, turning off the range at the circuit breaker for a minute or two and then back on can sometimes reset the controls and allow the lock to cycle. Do not attempt this while the oven is still hot.
What Not to Do
- Do not pry or force the door. The lock mechanism and door hinges can be damaged, and the door glass can break.
- Do not remove panels to reach the lock motor.
When to Call
A door that remains locked when the oven is cool and a power reset has not helped points to a door lock motor, lock switch or control board problem. Self-clean heat is also known to stress these parts. Book an oven repair visit and mention whether the display shows a code or lock indicator.
