Frigidaire’s countertop ice makers sit on a counter, fill from a water reservoir and make batches of ice on chilled prongs or in a nugget-ice mechanism. They are simpler than a built-in ice machine, but they still rely on a compressor, a fan, a water pump and sensors that tell the control when the reservoir is empty or the basket is full.
Most calls come down to mineral scale, a sensor that is dirty or out of place, a weak pump, or a machine that cannot get rid of heat because its vents are blocked. We check those first. If the refrigeration system itself has failed, a repair on a small countertop unit can cost close to its replacement price, and we tell you that before you spend money on it.
