What High Temp Means
A High Temp alarm (shown as H or a High Temp indicator depending on model) on a Frigidaire upright freezer means the cabinet is warmer than the control expects and has not recovered yet. It can follow an open door or a big load of unfrozen food, but it can also be the first sign of a cooling failure.
Common Causes of High Temp
- Door ajar or gasket not sealing
- Large load of room-temperature food
- Frost buildup or defrost fault on frost-free models
- Condenser fan or compressor start component failure
- Refrigerant leak
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For the freezer: close the door firmly, check that the gasket seals all the way around, make sure the freezer is not packed against its air vents, and press Alarm Reset to silence it. For the food: put a thermometer between packages — 0°F or below is the target, and items can be refrozen only if they still have ice crystals or read 40°F or below. If the temperature is not dropping within a few hours with the door shut, schedule service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Compressor, start relay and sealed-system components carry line voltage and cannot be serviced without proper tools and refrigerant certification.
- A repeated alarm with a good door seal means the cause is inside the refrigeration system.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered by your warranty — check your warranty terms first.
