What PF Means
On Frigidaire upright freezers with an electronic control, PF or a Power Failure message means power was interrupted. It is an informational alert so you know to check the contents; a high-temperature alarm may follow while the freezer pulls back down.
Common Causes of PF
- Utility outage
- Tripped breaker or GFCI
- Unplugged or loose cord, common in garages and basements
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Acknowledge the alert with Alarm Reset once power is stable. Then check the contents: food that still has ice crystals or reads 40°F or below can be refrozen per USDA guidance; anything above that should be discarded. If the freezer returns to 0°F on its own, no repair is needed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None — PF alone is a routine notice. Book service only if the freezer does not return to temperature once power is restored.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
